Certainly not! That’s the reaction everyone gets when they try to do something different. Extraordinary success is never easy; they are risks you have to take. We have four tips that could give you a boost in the right direction:
Get away with some of your networks. Not every network is a great network. You probably know 100 or more people in your life but who really is looking out for your good. Everyone struggles with internal doubts and there are plenty of people who will readily reinforce your doubts lest you outshine them. You might need to cut some people off. Surround yourself with people that motivate you, give you constructive criticism and give you the confidence to apply for that job or promotion, enabling you to blast through your limits.
Think about the future: Yes, we know that sounds scary. Will you have made it? Will the world be as you anticipate it to be? Scary, we know! But truth is if you don’t make the right decisions or investments for your life or career, you are going to struggle to get ahead. You have to find ways to invest in your career either through taking short or long term courses/trainings. Such undertakings will come in handy when the company decides to downsize or a potential life changing job arises.
Preparation never hurts: There is nothing like being ‘over’ ready, when it comes to doing things that will make your life insightful and fulfilling. In your career, its fool hardy to apply for a new position or dive into a project without preparation. If it a new job, take time to gather support and wisdom from your networks on how to provide top-notch application materials or even gain insight on the company you are applying to join. It is like a look before you leap strategy. You need to know what you are getting yourself into to avoid making obvious mistakes; joining a company that is shutting down in the next 5 years.
Perfection should never be the goal: Can total perfection be achieved? If you are a machine yes, but if you are still human you will still have your flaws. The struggle for perfection always gives us the fear that we can’t present ideas or do something different because it is half baked. However, contrary to this belief, you can achieve greater heights if you just take a leap of faith and submit a sub-standard idea to your boss or supervisor. You just never know what that might do for you.
So go ahead a head and dare your fear. Think out of the box and do amazing things!
